The MONOFAST surgical suture is indicated for the retention in contact or for the convergence of soft tissues excluding the tissues of the cardiovascular and central nervous system tissues. In addition, its use is not indicated in ophthalmological and microsurgical procedures: implantation of the synthetic absorbent surgical suture MONOFAST initially causes a minimal local inflammation of the tissues, characteristic of the reaction to a foreign body, followed by the corresponding local development of fibrous connective tissue. This is followed by a gradual loss of the strength and mass of the suture due to its absorption by the process of hydrolysis in which the suture is metabolized into adipic acid which is eventually absorbed and fully metabolized in the tissues. During the absorption of the MONOFAST suture, a loss of its strength is initially observed without significant loss of its mass. The suture has a residual strength of 68-78% after one week and up to 30% towards the end of the second week. The absorption of the suture is completed in a period of 90 to 110 days. The total initial strength of the suture is lost over a period of 28 days.
